LINDALË, part II

by Werna Wolf

/
1.
You've heard the Wizard’s Words of Wisdom —
No need for swords your soul to save,
For it is close, the clouded kingdom
That once was shadows in the cave —

That stretches far beneath the stars…

Dear knight, kneel down before thy King!
A wanderer thou shalt be no more:
At night, His crown a gilded ring
That shines your path to show, a shore —

That reaches far beyond the stars…

Now stand and stay thy hand above
The gleaming water’s tone to see,
 Within the undulating glove,
The riddles of the soaring sea —

That ripples far beyond the stars…

2.
Celusindi 03:28
The Elven River endless flows
Among the hills and vales of yore,
The oak, the boar, the deer, the rose,
What a sight the dead ignore!

3.
Aranië 06:07
Behold the Kingdom far ahead: a fiddle,
 Trumpets, flutes and drums
 Announce its everlasting riddle —
 Such bombastic hums!
You see the stars, their silent circle
 Gyring at the Pole,
And here you stand, their salient middle
Pointing at the whole. Your night has come its light to show —
 Crenellated walls
And towers, spires and stones bellow —
Howling hollow halls…
You sing to make your heart a temple,
Gaping like a hole,
 Expecting little save a sample,
 A raindrop from the pole.

4.
Cilintír 03:09
You’ve finally reached the underground keep,
Beneath the surface of that sordid swamp,
Where the moon in mud shines dull and damp,
Unreal in all its unsafe, unsound sleep —

You feel your way through pitch-black halls,
Room after room in deadly darkness plunged —
It seems as if all life has been expunged
From this maze of maddening, putrid walls — Until at last you find yourself inside
A half-lit cave with what could be a window
Far ahead — before you stands a shadow,
Sleek and slender, on the other side —

Drawing closer you can see it grow —
 The creature’s vaguely anthropomorphous —
Yet when you trembling touch a silver surface,
Horror strikes you still — this can’t be… NO!
(This poem is based on H.P. Lovecraft's "The Outsider")
5.
J'ai vu le soleil descendre, La lune annoncer l'aurore –
 Fée nixe nimbée de cendres,
Noyer céleste aux fruits d'or –

about

On the path to Ancient Wisdom, you, the Elven Knight, meet your fate and overcome your deepest fears. Facing Valda Mornië, the Dark Lord, you die, cross the river of the dead and finally remember who you are, where you come from and what your mission is, as the end is also the beginning, and all things stem from the same seed.

Dear dungeon dweller, dark days are coming. Yet fear not, for they announce the return of the King.

Here is the second part of LINDALË (wernawolf.bandcamp.com/album/lindal). Although it is still meant as a tribute to Tolkien's creation as well as to Summoning's unforgettable musical masterpieces, it explores new and darker horizons to make YOU the hero of the album.

The latter was mainly composed and recorded using a Roland Juno G synthesizer as midi keyboard and Logic Pro, but also a broken 1983 Casio CT-405 synthesizer, an electric guitar as well as an acoustic guitar - and a few fingers, of course, as I was told it helps when making music.

Now do what you will with this album too - these tracks aren't mine anymore. Live or die. Either way, what bliss!

P.S.: don't you dare forget to read the poems included in the lyrics!

credits

released April 15, 2024

All songs composed and recorded from January to April 2024 by Werna Wolf.

"Valda Mornië" is loosely based on "Winter Stroll", a black metal track I composed in 2018.

Original artwork by Werna Wolf, based on histoirescochonnes.blogspot.com/2023/11/histoire-cochonne-galahad-et-le-saint.html, a cartoon made by his cartoonist self and which was based on George Frederic Watts' "Sir Galahad" painting (1860).

The vocal samples used on this album come from James Whale's "Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Wolfgang Petersen's "NeverEnding Story" (1984) and Ron Howard's "Willow" (1988).

The final sample is a recording of wood burning in my wood stove.
